The End is Near!
Doug and I are very excited to have made the decision that we'll be closing the business at the end of November. Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat has been incredibly wonderful, we have met some amazing people and had the most fun anyone can imagine while watching our guests enjoy the retreat. We have accomplished all that we set out to do and we feel very satisfied with our efforts.
Huge gratitude goes out to the many visitors who became friends, the facilitators who brought their clients, musicians who have entertained in our living room, chefs and other foodies, nature-lovers, painters, yogis and on and on. Since we moved down here, we've made amazing friends and we appreciate them and the support of local businesses.
The next stage of our lives will be different for sure, and we are hoping to travel and relax - maybe even read a book or two!! So, take the opportunity to attend one of the upcoming retreats, while you can!

Check out the Calendar of Events and call to register - we have a wide variety of things to do defined. If you have a weekend in mind that is not shown, give us a call, we'll do what we can to make it happen for you! We supply the meals, studio space (open 24 hours) and wonderfully comfortable accommodations surrounded by 11 acres of nature. Serenity, seclusion and solitude at Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat.

Diamond Willow Artisan Retreat is a get-away destination just 1 short hour south of Calgary in Alberta's lovely foothills. On the Cowboy Trail near Black Diamond and Turner Valley, you'll be awed by the beauty of the Rockies in Kananaskis Park.

We welcome groups up to 12 people who wish to work/play together in a stimulating, nurturing environment.

As our list of sessions is ever-changing, help us to keep you informed by signing up for our newsletter. We, of course, will not release your information to others.

About Diamond Willow Retreat and Pat & Doug Lothrop

Doug and Pat Lothrop are honoured to host individuals, groups and artisans of all kinds from painters and scrapbookers to quilters, musicians, photographers, calligraphers and wood workers. Bring your supplies for an artistic weekend (we’ll provide everything else) or come for a bed and breakfast experience and enjoy the hospitality of local towns.

The retreat came to life in 2009 after the long-dormant dream rose to the surface and demanded to be realized! We are both somewhat creative and thought other like-minded people would also appreciate uninterrupted quality time to pursue their art. This was the foundation for the idea, and the retreat has grown to offer corporate retreats as well as wellness and creative weekends. House concerts and Pizza Paloozas are the icing on the cake – allowing people to come and visit, see the facility and enjoy some music and food. The best part of what we do is getting to know our guests – who inevitably become friends!

Diamond Willow Artisan Community Support

Since our first grand opening event, where art was auctioned off, we have supported The Rowan House Emergency Shelter. Rowan House provides women and their children a safe environment that nourishes feelings of self-worth, lends an opportunity for healing and personal growth, and provides space to facilitate transition into the community.
Now, we are proud to partner with the Soup Sisters. We have been supporting Rowan House Emergency Shelter with nurturing and nourishing soups since February, 2011. Every second month our kitchen opens up for an afternoon of giving back to the community. For more information or volunteer opportunities contact Soup Sisters Diamond Valley.

Since coming to the Diamond Valley area in 2006, Pat and Doug have been active in various community events.

Joining the local Chamber of Commerce they were instrumental in putting on an Art in the Heart of the Cowboy Trail art show. By encouraging positive idea sharing, Doug and Pat support the growth and success of local businesses.

As lovers of fine music the Beneath the Arch concert series was a natural fit as well. We participate with a group of volunteers to promote great live music events in our community.

Recently we have joined a group called The Most Beautiful Art Tour in Alberta! Collaborating together to create community through art in the southern Alberta foothills, our venues are dotted along the beloved back road known as HWY 22 (The Cowboy Trail) and are found in Millarville, Turner Valley, Black Diamond, and Longview. You won’t find another region as beautiful as ours to drive through, while stopping en route to visit our awesome art venues – Bluerock Gallery, The Lost American, Leighton Art Centre, Firebrand and Diamond Willow.
